First Day Orientation

First Day Orientation

The first day starting at a new college can be a daunting experience. Eden College has developed a short induction programme that gives students all the information they need to accustom themselves to their new surroundings.

This orientation helps students to learn about their new environment. Many international students are not only beginning a new educational programme, but are also experiencing a whole new culture for the first time. It is particularly important that you are guided through this process. Eden College wishes to prepare students for their academic programme and student life in Ireland while providing fun and relaxing opportunities to socialise with other students.

The Orientation Programme will cover the following broad range of topics:

  • Welcome to Eden College!
  • Receiving the Eden College Student Handbook
  • Receiving your timetable
  • How to get a student card
  • How to use the College's PC's
  • How to open a bank account
  • How to prepare for your classes
  • What to expect in an Irish College classroom
  • How to get medical insurance (if you have not got it already)
  • What services are available on campus to help you
  • What services are available in the community to help you
  • How to use the bus system
  • What facilities are available on campus
  • How to be a successful college student
  • Department of Immigration rules and services
  • Working in Ireland - how to find a job and the immigration regulations associated with this
  • Finding accommodation in Dublin
  • Do's and Don'ts of living in Dublin/Ireland
  • Short introduction into the history and culture of Ireland
  • Health & Safety guidelines of the College

Throughout the programme, students have the opportunity to ask questions as group discussions are an important component. By the end of the day, you should feel more accustomed to your new surroundings and have lots of new friends!
