English for Academic Purposes

Introduction

By choosing the Eden College EAP course, you are taking the first steps in ensuring that you will be well prepared for further academic study at an Irish or UK Educational Institution.

On arrival, you will sit a placement test to indicate your current level of English. You will then be placed in the appropriate class where you will improve both reading and writing skills.

IELTS Exam

The teacher will work with you to improve your overall communicative proficiency and fluency. Your progress will also be monitored by your teachers, and you will be given the opportunity to sit a progression test.

When you are able to speak with confidence on an extensive range of issues using a wide variety of tenses with little by way of errors, you will have reached the level necessary to take the second part of the course; preparing for the IELTS examination.

Subject to meeting entry criteria, EAP students will also be given the opportunity to join one of our Further Education or Higher Education programmes.
