English & Work Placement Course
Introduction
This course is ideal for students who wish to mix their English studies with a selection of other subjects, all leading to a paid work placement in the Dublin region. The programme follows the General English syllabus for 12 weeks and then introduces students to a range of different subjects in the following 12 weeks.
Subjects in the second half of the course include:
- Tourism Awareness
- Customer Service
- Communications
- Teamworking
Course Aims
- Consolidate and expand key grammar knowledge
- Apply 'classroom' language to real-world situations
- Develop vocabulary for the work environment
- Increase knowledge of Irish life and culture
- Increase interaction with media in English (newspapers, radio and internet)
Course Content
Reading: developing reading skills and expanding vocabulary
Writing: improving professional written communication skills
Speaking: discussions, debates, role-plays, negotiation, transactions
Listening: listening for orders, listening for specific information, following conversations
Grammar: reviewing and developing knowledge of the English grammar system and consolidating knowledge to practice and usage
Idioms & Collocations: expanding and using a variety of appropriate work-based idioms
